The 2025 Edition of HANDI-GUIDE to Alberta's OH&S Act, Regulation, and Code provides new commentary about important regulatory developments on the Alberta OHS scene, plus a forward look at anticipated regulatory changes later in 2025 and beyond.

This edition includes the updated version of the OHS Code, which reflects all OHS code amendments brought forward by Alberta Regulation 202/2024 in-force as of March 31, 2025.

Amended Parts include:

  • Part 27 – Violence and Harassment
  • Part 33 – Explosives
  • Part 37 – Oil and Gas Wells
  • Miscellaneous Amendments to multiple Parts, including Parts 5, 10, 11, 15, 17, 18, 31, 40 and 41, plus Tables 5, 6 and 7 of Schedule 2 of the OHS Code.

Examples of select updates include:

  • Under Section 390 in Part 27, employers must have a violence and harassment prevention plan.
  • Under Section 391, employers must train workers in the violence and harassment prevention plan, and any revision to the plan.
  • For all updated Parts, there are numerous updated definitions, plus editorial changes to adjust wording and align terminology in the OHS Code.

The 2025 edition also outlines the ongoing work to update different Parts of the OHS Code, which is partly driven by the OHS Code Review Plan, 2023 – 2026. Review of additional Parts of the OHS Code is expected from 2025 to 2026, in line with the review plan.

The Handi-Guide offers updated commentary on the impact of the OHS Act, Regulation, and Code on Alberta workplaces and OHS compliance. It also offers:

  • Insight on a range of compliance and enforcement.
  • Updated information about online services and resources.
  • Full review of the OHS legislative framework in Alberta.

This edition includes:

  • A foreword on the ongoing impact of Alberta’s freshened OHS legislation, written by well-known Edmonton OHS lawyer David Myrol.
  • The current version of the Act, plus regulations under the Act, including the OHS Code and Regulation.
  • Seven interpretive chapters, with updated commentary and legislation.
